Real life, always has unexpected turns…As a baby boomer and retired physician, I now devote my time to writing medical thrillers. My journey as a fiction author began in 2003, inspired by the encouragement of fellow Toastmasters who often remarked that my speeches captivated audiences because they unfolded like stories, no matter the topic. “You should write a book,” they urged. My wife, weary of hearing me rehearse speeches, agreed—and when I asked what I should write about, she suggested a patient from my Navy days who had returned from Vietnam with a bottle filled with human eyes. That chilling anecdote became the seed for my debut novel, THE EYEMAN.
The sequel, THE DUTY CREW, chronicles the final Christmas Day of the Vietnam War in a Northeast Naval hospital. Like all my novels, it weaves real-life experiences with suspenseful, intriguing storylines. My background—growing up in Massachusetts, earning both an MD and PhD in medicine, and directing medical research for two decades in pharmaceutical drug development—continues to shape the authenticity of my work.
History has always fascinated me, and my novel COTTER reflects that passion, blending medical and family struggles with historical fact during the turbulent post–Civil War years of 1868–1872. I believe literature should be educational, entertaining, serious, emotional, and always tinged with a touch of fantasy—because we are all dreamers. That philosophy comes alive in THE HELIOS RAIN, where Dr. Mathew Collins returns from military service in Afghanistan to confront challenges that embody all these elements. Similarly, THE MYOSIN FACTOR explores the suspenseful pursuit of a possible cure for Muscular Dystrophy.
Now living in San Antonio, Texas, I dedicate five hours each day to writing, collaborating with editors, and promoting my e-books. Just as rewarding as my own creative work is encouraging my eight grandchildren to read and write. My hope is that readers will discover both the joys and the stark realities of life through my novels.
